Understanding your audience's preferences is a crucial ingredient in the overall recipe for email marketing success. Meanwhile, surveys are a wonderful tool that allows you to easily find out what your audience likes and dislikes. We want to make the process of creating these email surveys as simple as possible and technically unsophisticated. That's why we're introducing a new addition to our interactive module generator, the Multiple Choice Survey module. We’ll show you what this module is all about, as well as give you a full guide on how to create it using our generator.
How can you use the Multiple Choice Survey module for your email campaigns?
The name of this module speaks for itself. It's a full-fledged survey where the recipient can select multiple options as their answers. The survey can contain multiple questions, and after clicking the "Submit Response" button, the recipient sees the final screen, and you receive feedback for further processing.
How can you use this straightforward interactive mechanic? You got a few options:
- onboard your new subscribers to understand which emails to send in general, or which product features to introduce first;
- learn more about your audience’s likes and dislikes to build your further email marketing strategy;
- gather insights on how your audience interacts with your brand, newsletters, products, and so on;
- fine-tune your offers and discounts based on the feedback from these surveys, to make them more appealing for your audience’s wants and needs;
- provide a more personalized experience using the data gathered;
- conduct an ideation session with your audience by providing surveys of what they think your future products, services, and events should be.
As you can see, this module is designed more for working with your audience and the information they provide, rather than simply raising the level of engagement and entertaining recipients. However, this doesn't change the fact that such convenient, hassle-free surveys significantly enhance your emails' appeal thanks to their interactivity.
How to generate an interactive Multiple Choice Survey module
Now, let’s get down to business and create our interactive module.
Step 1. Set up your first question and answers
The main thing this module can’t do without is questions and answers. Type in your question in the Question field, then add answers by typing them in the corresponding Answers field.
Our example consists of 5 answers, but if it’s too much for your idea, you can always hover over the needed answer field and click on the Delete button to delete the whole answer (we have a limit of a minimum of two required answer fields per question, so keep this in mind).
If you need more answer fields, click on the Add an answer button to add more fields.
To add more questions, click on the Plus button near the Questions to add another question. You’ll see a new tab appearing, where you can tweak questions and answers the same way as we described above. To delete a question, click on the Trash bin icon near the corresponding question number.
Step 2. Pick your scale type
This option basically changes how your survey looks and “feels”. By default, our survey has a Checkbox scale that marks the answers you pick with a color and a filled-in checkbox, but you can choose two other options.
Here’s what the Button scale looks like.
And the last option to pick from is the Option list scale.
Step 3. Change the submit button
Add a submit button text that matches your idea by typing in your text into a corresponding field.
Step 4. Add questions’ numbers (optional)
If your survey has more than one question, you can enable the display of question numbers by turning on this option and adding a corresponding label to the respective field.
Important note: Your label must consist only of words, as we number questions automatically. There is no need to set your label as Question 1 or Question 2 for each question separately. Just add a Question label (or any word you want), and we’ll do the rest.
Step 5. Set up your completion screen
Once the answers are submitted, your recipients will see a completion screen, so you should make it fancy.
First of all, you need to tweak your completion image (or don’t, as you can turn it off by flipping the corresponding switch). By default, you’ll see our three image options, which you can choose by simply clicking on them. If they don’t match your style, click on the big plus button to add your own image.
Just paste the image link into this field, and you are good to go.
Important note: The image you want to attach must not exceed 3 MB in size and 4000 x 4000 px in dimensions.
The next thing you need is to create a final message text. Add a title and description text to support your message. You can tweak the description as much as you need using built-in input field options (add links, emojis, change text style, and so on).
You can also add a completion button to your end screen by clicking on the Completion Button switch to open two input fields. Add the needed button name and attach a link to this button to keep the interaction with your email going.
Step 6. Add a response storage link
This feature is required for downloading and receiving answers to our game, so you need to add a link to data storage to collect the received vote responses and the email addresses from which they were submitted.
Important note: You can read more about data storage services and how to use them in a dedicated article.
Your answers will be saved in the data service that you can find in the Data tab in the Sources section. This menu holds all the created data storage and allows you to retrieve your answers. Click the Download button to receive a file with the answers.
For example, here’s how our test file looks with one answer submitted. Keep in mind that the Address column displays our *|ADDRESS|* merge tag, as we send our test email from the editor. Once you send it from your ESP, you will start receiving actual email addresses using this merge tag.
Step 7. Add merge tags (optional)
You can add more personalization to your interactive module by adding merge tags via our built-in option. Just flip the corresponding switch to open input fields. Set the name for your merge tag and its value, and you are set and done with the first one. If you need more merge tags, click on the plus button to add more and on the trash bin icon to delete the merge tags.
Merge tags you add appear here, and they also appear in the code of the game.
Keep in mind that merge tags are hidden and you can only see them in the editor. This allows you to add merge tags like *|ADDRESS|* to pull recipients’ addresses into your file, with answers showing which email address submitted each response.
Step 8. Customize styles
Last but not least is to tweak your interactive module design. In the Appearance section, you can change the icon style by picking from the four default options or adding your own image. These icons represent the Tick icon for the corresponding type of the survey, text colors, and border radius.
Important note: This option will appear only if your survey has a Checkbox scale type enabled.
After that, it’s time to change the colors of various elements. They have two states, which you can tweak:
- inactive state shows your answer options as they are;
- active state is shown once the answer is clicked on.
In both these states, you can change the background and border colors as well as the border radius of your checkboxes (only appear if a Checkbox scale is selected). Besides that, each scale style can be tweaked in terms of its input colors, like background colors, border colors, text colors, border radius, and font size.
And don’t forget about Submit and Completion button styles, where you can change text colors, background colors and border radius.
Here’s how our default game looks like.
And here’s what it looks like after a few tweaks. Change the design to match your style and needs with ease.
Step 9. Download the game
Once you're done creating your interactive survey, it’s time to download it, and here you have two options for downloading.
Option 1. Saving game as a module
You can save your created survey right away as a module in your library. However, to do this, you must be a Stripo user and logged into your account.
After clicking Save, you'll be automatically redirected to your Account, where you'll see a message like this informing you that the module has been saved to the library and can be found in the editor or in the module library.
Option 2. Downloading game code separately
You can also download the game code separately and you don’t need a Stripo account to do it. Paste your email address here and click the Send button.
After that, you’ll receive an email with download links for HTML code or JSON to use later.
All the games that you create in our generator are designed to work for all email clients. Where the email client does not support interactivity (e.g., Outlook), recipients will see a fallback version that simulates interactivity while they interact with it, transferring them to the web version of the email. As a result, all recipients experience interactivity to the same degree. At the same time, you do not lose the ability to track the performance of the web version.
The module contains:
- an AMP version of your email that works in Gmail, Yahoo, and FairEmail;
- a kinetic version that works on all devices and with all email clients that support HTML5 and CSS3 (it also works in Apple Mail and Samsung Email);
- a fallback version that simulates interactivity or acts as an image with a link work with email clients that do not support HTML5 or CSS3, such as some Outlook apps.
How to test your email with an interactive module
The last thing you should do when creating an email with interactive content is to test it. Stripo has several ways of doing this. First of all, click on the Test button to open our selection menu.
Step 1. Sending an email to an inbox
This step is the most obvious, as all you need to do is to check out how your email looks in the real inbox. You can send test emails by entering the required email addresses and then clicking on the Send Test button. After that, you’ll see test email in your inbox where you can check it out both in terms of looks and functionality.
Important note: The number of tests is limited depending on your plan. You can check how many email tests are left on the Home page.
Step 2. Testing it using Email on Acid integration
The second way of testing is using our Email on Acid integration. However, it only shows how your interactive email will look like, so you can’t check your interactive game functionality. Choose the Email Clients option and then click on the Run a Test button.
After that, you’ll see your email checked across various email clients, devices, themes, and more.
Besides that, you can fine-tune your test by selecting specific devices, email clients, and other features to know exactly what your email will look like in these environments.
Important note: The number of tests is limited depending on your plan. You can check how many email tests are left on the Home page.
Wrapping up
And that’s pretty much it. Creating this interactive survey is a piece of cake when you are using our interactive module generator. In less then 10 minutes you will have a full-fledged survey that you can use in your email campaigns, gathering valuable insights to shape your successful email campaigns.
